Five Mixed Media Plein Air Sketches of Water

Five Mixed Media Plein Air Sketches of Water

Plein air mixed media sketches

I got out plein air painting again, for the third time so far this spring. The first two times I painted meadow scenes, so I went somewhere different this time, and focused on water. I feel like these really capture the limited palette of this time of year, and it is a delight to be out, especially since I’ve been in a lot lately, and the weather has not been very accommodating.

These impressions were captured and recorded quickly. Sketching like this gets my juices flowing, and sketched motifs eventually appear in my finished work. It is amazing the variety you can capture looking in different directions from the same spot.

What do you think?
