River Farm, Alexandria (spring flower photos)

We had fun going to River Farm, near Alexandria, Virginia. It is a the home of the American Horticultural Society, and is on a 25 acre plot of land on the Potomac, which was once owned by George Washington. (His home, Mount Vernon, is close by.)

The day was lovely and we walked the gardens, enjoyed the rocking chairs on the porch, and my husband bought plants: a deep burgundy peony, a hardy fig tree, and even a gogi berry tree!

When we drove down on Friday, there were no leaves on the trees at home, so we’ve been catapulted into spring in a big way! Look at all these flowers. It is amazing how many kinds there are!

DELIGHTFUL Polly and James – thank you – we have a swathe of Lily of the Valley about to bloom – and a gorgeous Geranium Dilys – which seems to be taking over ……!

Thank you for the lovely photos. We were just in Charlottesville two weekends ago and also enjoyed an explosion of spring flowers. I was unaware though of River Farm, and will check it out the next time we visit the Alexandria area, which may be later this summer.
