In the End (Poem by Jena Schwartz)

In the End (Poem by Jena Schwartz)
In the End by Jena Schwartz Porous (gouache) by Polly Castor

In the end
we will say
hallelujah thank you
holy wow amen

In the end
we will know
the wounded places
that needed healing

In the end
we will wish
we hadn’t wasted
so many moments
beating ourselves up

In the end
we will return
the beginning beckoning

In the end
the circle closes
hard to imagine

In the end
we’ll know love
always sheltered us

In the end
presence and compassion
will seem easy
and we’ll wonder
what took us so long

the split second
of our existence
in the book
of the sky
the no end
and no beginning
of timeless time

In the end
regret and guilt
disappointment and grief
will all fall
so many leaves
tree of life
with our names
inscribed yet again

    to realize
    the end
