Photos of a Quiet Time at South Branch Pond

Photos from South Branch Pond

We spent precious, contemplative mornings lakeside. Later in the day we’d hike or swim, read or cook, but waking with the first light gave us plenty of time to bask in the chilly glory of these mornings. Yes, in these photos, I’m bundled in four layers of fleece.

The photo above shows the view from our picnic table. Our daughter handpicked wild blue berries (which were fabulous flavor bombs!) hiking the large hill to the left of our site, the one that the rocks look a weird maroon red in certain light. It was over that hill the sun rose, to sparkle on every stem of grass, and each individual, swaying ripple. The frogs and loons, birches, rocks, reflections, and horizon all brought joy. The stream leading into the pond took on a curious purple cast in low light. It was fascinating how the same thing looks so different in different light.

Enjoy these photos that capture a sacred quiet time apart for us.

Wow…it was hard, but I love the frog pick. Do not be afraid but I saw a walrus on your cot! Feeling the calm.

Long ago, I heard my theology prof say ” Frogs are a proof that God has a sense of humor.”

I’ve heard it, if you wonder if God has a sense of humor, look at a baboon’s bottom!
