In Jasper, we were in an area where a forest fire had been raging only a week before. The devastation was very impressive, and you could still smell latent smoke tinged with the scent of pine needles. But what also made a big impression was that wild flowers were already starting to grow where a week ago there had been an inferno. While nature can seem vulnerable, it is also surprisingly resilient.
