We are back in Yosemite again, since we were unable to get consecutive reservations, and split up our visit by different parts of the park, interrupted by a visit to the Redwoods. This time we are in the Yosemite Valley, having scored a lovely campsite in Upper Pines (#182), which is much bigger and more private than most. We learned that the Mariposa Grove on the back side of Yosemite that we saw a little over a week ago is now closed for two years of renovations, so we are glad our visit was split, or we would have missed that altogether.
The valley is more populated than other areas of Yosemite, but for good reason. The towering cliffs jutting up from the flat meadows are stunning. Getting around by shuttle bus (or by bike as we are) is easy. Tomorrow we are planning a colossal hike, followed by some painting. Meanwhile, we are surrounded by soaring cliffs and every language imaginable, but it still does not feel crowded. We wish we could stay here much longer!
