Movie Review: Tim’s Vermeer

review Tim's Vermeer

I loved this film and give it 5 stars. It is fascinating on many different levels. It was interesting to watch someone pursue a hunch to such an exacting extent through such painstaking extremes, and follow it to captivating fruition. Here is an article in Vanity Fair about the process.

Tim is an inventor, tinkerer, self-made billionaire, and explicitly NOT a painter, and by the end of this documentary has painted his own “Vermeer” by innovative technical problem solving that was all available during Vermeer’s lifetime. The film not only solves a mystery of art history, it stimulates consideration about what defines art over mere technical craft, as well as showcases a unique modern individual who goes to massive (even obsessive) lengths at great expense to doggedly satisfy his curiosity. Plus, he is funny, engaging, charmingly gung-ho, and unstoppably ingenious.

This movie is as much for technogeeks as it is for artists and is appropriate for all ages. I encourage you to see this! You will be glad you did.
