In Sequoia National Park

In Sequoia National Park

Sequoia National Park photos

We enjoyed Sequoia National Park very much. We visited the most massive tree in the world– General Sherman –which was protected from loggers by the US Calvary, as well as the tree with the largest circumference– General Grant –measuring 40 feet across. We drove through downed trees, walked through other ones, and cringed at the huge stumps left by loggers. The cobblestones Laura is standing in the middle of in the photo below depict the huge footprint General Sherman, estimated at 2,500 years old.

We liked our campsite on a craggy hill (#108 in the Lodgepole campground) with adjacent river sounds. One night we heard the abrupt thundering crash of a tree falling down somewhere on the hill above us. Another night I saw a shooting star in these very dark skies which were spangled with starlight. We saw three more bears in addition to the one we saw in Yosemite, but did not take pictures of them. Check out Laura resting on top of the bear box after a long day of hiking…

  1. […] depicted in the photos on this post. I’ve seen big trees before (like in the posts here and here and here) but that had been a few years ago, and it was nice to hang out […]
