You Were Never Unwanted
You say you were (or felt) unwanted
and I’m sorry it ever seemed so,
since spiritually, both then and now,
it was never even possible.
You are and always have been
God’s very best idea, adored,
approved of, and absolutely necessary.
As God’s image and likeness,
you make God’s own
self knowledge possible.
God couldn’t be God without you
so that’s a pretty powerful need,
never lapsing, never waning,
never waiting to actualize.
Nothing can interrupt
what you inherently bring
no decision of another,
no one’s myopia,
no one’s mistake, insecurity,
or ridiculous unkindness,
can separate you
from your place in eternity–
netted safely in what
holds everything together.
All of creation would fall apart
without you being you
exactly as you are.
You make everything complete.
You are essential, imperative,
desired, sought out, cherished,
unique, precious, marvelous, known.
God made you because without you
we would be left wanting,
missing something vitally crucial.
You are always wanted exactly
like a number without whom
all of mathematics would collapse.
That’s how in demand you are;
your very being is advantageous
to all the rest of existence.
So own how pivotal you are to God,
made so Life, Truth and Love
can appreciate themselves.
If you haven’t always felt this
you can shed any false dream
that doesn’t belong to you.
You unwanted? Impossible!
You are exactly what the
Creator of the Universe
so wished for that you were
flung into being just like
like raspberries, dolphins,
and Yosemite Valley, only better.
You are the best part of
the fiber of forever
without of any egregious story–
you are and were generated
and destined only for glory.
You were never touched
or effected by horrible infringements,
decoy dramas, insensitive stupidity,
or selfish preoccupation.
You are undefeated, confident,
joyous, unencumbered,
attractive and brilliant,
among infinite other
crave-worthy qualities.
No, you were never actually unwanted;
your mere existence proves otherwise.
Claim firmly what is spiritually true
and let any alternative history go.

Thanks for the “You were never unwanted” poem. The family joke was that my parents only wanted two children. They had six. I was the third. But the subtle, supported joke left a shadow. Your expression reminded me of the sun — shining on us both. So now the shadow is in perspective.

I was wanted, but after my older sis–the perfect one–I fell a little…short!
It’s taken a few (ok a lot) of decades to correct the attendant probs–all illusions, of course–
and now I know I am a wonderful (perfect!) idea in the One Infinite Mind some call God.
WHEW!!!!!Love your poetry, as always, Polly. You are just so….so….perfect, too!

Polly, love your poem “you were never unwanted”. Something I have been working on, as I felt like the “black sheep” of the family. This poem hit home thank you for your words of wisdom

Oh Polly, how perfect is your poem “never unwanted”.
I am the youngest of three sisters and 12 years apart from my next sister. I don’t how or where I heard it but somehow I came to believe that I was a mistake. My parents divorced shortly after my birth. I think I’ve always looked for love or a sense of belonging from persons which has never completely satisfied.
Thank you for this 💛
