Pinajian has been discovered as a master of abstraction posthumously when his paintings were discovered piled high in a garage on Long Island. I find this very encouraging and exciting, just like the fact that Van Gogh sold only two works in his lifetime is as well. It makes me feel that someday my artwork will be understood and appreciated more widely also.
Watch the video below to see more of Pinajian’s work and to hear more of the story. The critics mention “the singularity of pursuit of a personal vision” and that “the process of making the art was what was important to him” – both of which could be said of me as well…
Meanwhile the buyers who bought his home for $300,000 discovered the art and were told to throw it away. Instead they had it appraised and sold it for $30,000,000. Quite a landfall for a stranger and unfortunate that the family overlooked its value.
