We woke up in our tent to snow in August. The temperature was in the 20’s. Where were the 106 degree temperatures of only a few days ago? While cold, it was still beautiful. We drove to the Old Faithful Inn for their delicious hot breakfast buffet, and then luxuriated in their 7 story, authentic log cabin lobby, making use of wireless which we hadn’t had all week. (We warmed up and the snow melted.)
This incredible lodge was built in 1910, remarkably close to Old Faithful Geyser. How had they been sure the ground here was stable for such an immense project? The rooms in this charming place are not all high priced, but must be booked over a year in advance. I was inspired by the scale of the lobby built of timber and vision a hundred years ago…
