Our last day on the island, we packed up, and then headed through the Cathedral Woods to paint at Squeaker Cove, which we’ve done each year. It has become a pilgrimage of sorts. Then we gathered for yummy food at the Monhegan Brewery (I had wonderful fried oysters). Before heading to the ferry, we checked out the Monhegan Library, which was the most adorable place.
The sea was calm, and for the first time, the ferry took us around the island to see the other side, which was especially interesting since we’ve hiked in all those places, but have never seen it from the water. We also saw seals, and were surprised to spot porpoises too! Maybe they are usually there, but the water is too rough to see them.
We had an amazing dinner at Alsace in Union, Maine– that pretzel and salad were both fabulous!– to cap off a wonderful time. Now I am headed home, to be in Connecticut until June.
