This new abstract landscape is highly textural and is titled Once in a Blue Moon, for it is a rare sight. The painting is 20″x20″ and done on an archival wood panel in mixed media. See the entire work above and close up details below.
I started here with vermiculite in my gesso, followed by running India ink. After that was dried, I collaged into it, and the final step was acrylic paint. I loved this process and will do it again. The wood panel was the perfect substrate for this very textured surface.
This was my first painting this year out at our picnic table, since our baby robins, resident in the umbrella overhead all spring, have all now flown away. It was fabulous to be back out there again painting.
