After our early morning visit to the mosque, we spent the day driving to Chefchaouen, the famous blue city. We arrived in time to take a quick walk before dinner, and then spent the entire next day exploring.
We took portraits in the morning, sat across from the mosque outside for lunch and witnessed the call to prayer as well as a demonstration for Palestine (which was ironic since the blue city is blue for their love of the Jews), then climbed the tower of the casbah and enjoyed its quiet gardens, then went shopping down the narrow blue streets, where our daughter bought me my Christmas present, then climbed the hill behind the city for the sunset view. Click here if you want to see a short video I took of the call to prayer over the city at sunset.
Our hotel, Dar Echchaouen, I’d highly recommend. The rooms had comfortable beds and the bathrooms had heated stone floors. And their food was good: I had the two salads I was allowed (considered safe) on the trip, which included the wonderful goat cheese they are known for and some exotic fruit. The night we got there I had swordfish, and the next night I had imported salmon, since we were heading inland for the rest of the trip and I was told it was my last chance for protein.
We took more photos here in this photogenic spot than anywhere else on the trip, so enjoy following us around!

What beautiful photos of such a special trip! I have wanted to visit Chefchaouen for the past few years but haven’t made it over yet. Your new tablecloth is absolutely lovely.
