Progressive or Conservative? (Quotes by Mary Baker Eddy)

Progressive or Conservative? (Quotes by Mary Baker Eddy)

Let’s look at what Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of Christian Science, says about being either progressive or conservative:

“If mortals are not progressive, past failures will be repeated until all wrong work is effaced for rectified.” (SH page 240).

“Universal salvation rests on progression and salvation, and is unattainable without them. ” (SH page 291).

“Infinite progression is concrete being.” (Mis page  82)

“The purification of sense and self is a proof of progress.” (SH page 324)

“be ready for progress, ‘forgetting those things which are behind.” (SH page 426)

“progress will destroy all error, and bring immortality to light.”

“A progressive life is the reality of Life that unfolds its immortal Principle.” (Mis page 117)

“What hinders man’s progress is his vain conceit, the Phariseeism of the times” (Mis page 234)

“…conservatism is absolutely inadmissible.” (SH 167)

“We soil our garments with conservatism, and afterwards must wash them clean.” (SH page 452)

“Slander is a midnight robber; the red-tongued assassin of radical worth; the conservative swindler, who sells himself in a traffic by which he can gain nothing.” (Mis page 226)

What I take from this is to embrace being progressive, to question any retrograde step, value virtuous, good character, and to repudiate Pharisaical practices that would want to return to positions outgrown, along with their erroneous, self-righteous attitude that they have a moral duty to make others submit to their backward notions.
