Creative Arts Camp 2024 (Inspirational Bits and Cherry Island Swim Photos)
The annual cherry island swim occurred yesterday morning, and while I usually swim, this year I went in a canoe, and got photos for you. The morning was exquisitely lovely and we were graced by a low fly by of a bald eagle, who I just gaped at and didn’t try to photograph.
Since we had the day off from classes, I thought I’d share some inspirational bits of conversations I had and want to keep track of:
- One woman, flying to Maine from California for camp, was concerned about “catching something” on her all night red-eye. Then she read in the Bible the story of Andrew and Peter fishing all night, and they “caught nothing.” Then she knew she wouldn’t either.
- “There is no impact but Love.”
- The opposite of old is not young, it is new. Have you done something new today? Do you see the world with the wonder of a child encountering it for the first time?
- The “structure of Truth and Love” is not just the demonstration of church, but the body is a temple too, and thought is building it.
- If you want to sail to that point across the lake, you’ll tack back and forth, being off course most of the time, making constant corrections, and get there just fine. Art is like that.
- We each need three different tribes that are honest, open and sincere, which bless us.
- “I don’t have time for feeling unworthy or less-than, for doing things that don’t interest me, or for wallowing in sadness.”
- Board game Hues and Cues is recommended.
The people here are WONDERFUL!

Thanks so much for sharing these gorgeous activities from Creative Arts. I hope you’ve met and “played” with my friend Laurie Carswell who’s teaching there this summer. Special artist and lovely person.
