loss (Poem by Laura Early)

June 28, 2024June 28, 2024 by Polly Castor

loss

hope relinquished in silence
like a knight’s honor
head erect
steel smile in place
dressed in black comfort
we wait
for the final peal
to jar us
like from a dream
into emptiness
wrapped in silk
