Terrilynn is one of my artist friends that I recently went to Monhegan Island with. I added a photo of her from that recent trip, last below, so you can see who I am talking about.

Two days ago I first saw the painting above that Terrilynn did of me and a mutual friend of ours, while we were at the museum on the island. I love the mark making Terrilynn did on the figures especially!  It captures a precious time of art, friendship, and the magic that is Monhegan, in a lovely way.

Going to Monhegan this year was especially poignant for Terrilynn. She used to paint on the island with her mother, who had recently passed on at almost 97. Our trip was a healing time for Terrilynn, having a chance to reminisce about previous visits there with her mother. For as long as I’ve known Terrilynn, I’ve heard about her spunky, sharp, Phase-10 playing mother, who was a watercolorist like my own mother, so I could relate. They both passed along their love of art to us.

Then yesterday, I learned Terrilynn won First Place in the current International Association of Pastel Juried Fall Exhibition 2023, which is a HUGE deal. I’m so proud of her! And that award winning painting? She painted it of her mother, soon after her passing. In it Terrilynn grappled with and processed her grief, and pondered the ongoing gift of her mom, which still remains. You can see her award winning painting below, and feel all the emotion bottled up there.

Check out Terrilynn’s website here, and maybe buy some artwork from this rising star!  Maybe I’ll eventually buy the one above?
