Value and composition are both so important, I look for them everywhere, and black and white photography is a great way to study and consider them. Pattern of shadow and light, as well as texture differences become more pronounced when color is not added to the mix. In this post you can see some of what I’ve been noticing lately.

Wow! The first composition and use of b+w put my world in reverse, standing next to reflected trunks of substance, with a foliage-like canopy instead of sky above. Sounds too clever, but that’s how it makes me feel. Wonderful.
The others are great too, and movement can be seen in the shadows while still! Scrolling with the computer just enhances that effect. Polly just um, increased my depth-of-field!

These shots just keep on giving!
Chandalier – instead of looking up at it, look down on it, and it is a futuristic lunar module blasting off from the surface.
Vintage vinyl albums covers – Doors Morrison Hotel (shades), and Canned Heat (firelog). When I visit the shots tomorrow, what will they bring? Mind is a fun thing! -
Today’s gift from the chandalier image:
Don’t look from below
But rather high above
Safe in God’s orbit
On the wing of a doveAnd what you may see
A ship that takes flight
Departing the mortal plane
To the center of your Mind
