Early November poem, by Polly Castor

Early November

We speed through a blur
of pumpkin spice,
crunchy fallen leaves,
the last garden produce,
and wisps of woodsmoke,
with the surrounding hills
yarn bombed in crocheted,
wooly, multicolor afghans,
as smilingly crisp blue,
or blustery, precipitous skies
greet in turn. Warm cider donuts
scatter cinnamon sugar, and
we buy local jams and honey,
bake tartly rustic apple pies,
roast fresh Brussels sprouts,
and slurp down satisfying
butternut squash soup.
We hike chilly morning paths
where tangled, climbing vines
shout out in crimson and gold,
as we exhale puffs of joy
in this invigorating
season of transition.

I work to amplify good wherever I find it. I love color, texture, beauty, great ideas, nature, metaphor, deliciousness, genuine spirituality, and exploring new territory. I encourage authenticity, nurture creativity, champion sustainability, promote peace, and hope to foster a new renaissance where we all are free to be our most fulfilled, multifaceted, and terrific selves. Rejoicing o’er the
    Early November rain,
California breathes a small sigh of relief!
I watch, as a Banana Slug
Happily glides down yon Redwood tree.
    Ahhhh, Nature….so fine!

What a special joy to read and “see” your marvelous insight. Your words touch my heart. Living here in Florida, I’m so happy to be exposed to my Northern roots and FEEL all the qualities of thought expressed in your poem and photos. Warm remembrances of my Brooklyn Novembers!!! Thank you for sharing so much good. Warmest love to you – and yours!!!
