In both of these paintings, I was exploring concepts while also trying out new techniques. I’m happy with the results!
The painting above, Raising the Shade on the Morning, is 15″x22″ and done in pastel. It captures that glorious moment when you raise the blinds and the gorgeous morning is revealed. In this painting I tried a new range of textures and materials to enhance this enchanted moment.

In the painting below, titled Follow All the Clues, I was experimenting with scraping through to layers underneath, much like I do in my sgraffito pottery (which I have been missing this year). The process is time consuming and mediative. In the foreground, you’ve got to follow all the clues to solve the mystery. The painting is 15″x15″ and done in pastel on a uniquely prepared surface.
