Take Flight
tizzy wizzy
so much going on
a flapping flock of thoughts
crowding in, all squawking
on the same branch,
so many things to do–
pistons accelerating
propellers whirling
blades churning
rotator shaft
spinning so fast
it’s all a blur
priorties swarm,
buzzing about, flitting,
sampling every flower,
workmanlike, the artisans
drag back buckets of
sticky pollen, collecting
and creating sweetness
from here and there
hectic commotion
and thronging demands
jockey for position
for what’s next, and next,
and then, at last… lift off–
taking flight–
receding into
an early dark sky,
as the noise
ebbs and wanes,
leaving behind
a solstice hush,
a conspicuous calm,
coasting to stillness,
openness, receptivity
and wonder.

Perfect timing for the craziness that the holidays bring. Distracting us from the real focus of it all.

Thank you for this wonderful poem, Polly! As soon as I read the title I knew it was for me — I’m experiencing that “tizzy wizzy” before my flight to Germany for the holidays. I love (LOVE!) thinking that I’m actually
“coasting to stillness,
openness, receptivity
and wonder.”
Big Love!-
