A Blog Reader’s Response to Yesterday’s Poem

tattos on your heart

I have the best blog readers. Shared below is the response I got from a blog reader (who is an Episcopal priest in Georgia) regarding the poem I wrote yesterday. I thought it was wonderful, complete with its great internal rhyme scheme. Thank you!

Tattoos (Apologies to Polly)

What do you have tattooed on your heart,
What is etched on your soul?
Is it kindness expressing only the good
Making sure that the good is your goal?
Is it making the most of the means you’ve been given
Knowing well that you’ll use them with skill?
Is it wisdom and empathy
Reaching for others
Without leaving you with the bill?
Is it people connection
With warmth pulsing through
That lights up the sky with your grace?
Is it humble perception that Spirit is real
Not just windy deception in lace?
So take heart my friend,
And let your soul breathe,
For you are not very odd!
In fact you’re a winner,
A born-again sinner
En route to the Kingdom of God!
