I’ve been reading the Message translation of the Bible.
Here are some tidbits from Psalms 1- 25:
“Why is everyone hungry for more? ‘More, more,’ they say. ‘More, more.’ I have God’s more-than-enough, more joy in one ordinary day than they get in all their shopping sprees.” Psalm 4
“God’s business is putting things right; he loves getting the lines straight, getting us straight. Once we’re standing tall, we can look him straight in the eye.” Psalm 11
“Don’t they know they can’t get away with this – treating people like a fast food meal over which they are too busy to pray?” Psalm 14
“‘God, who gets invited to dinner at your place? How do we get on your guest list?’ Walk straight, act right, tell the truth. Don’t hurt your friend, don’t blame your neighbor, despise the despicable. Keep your word even when it costs you, make an honest living, never take a bribe. You’ll never get blacklisted if you live like this.” Psalm 15
“My choice is you, God, first and only. And now I find I am your choice! You set me up with a house and yard. And then you made me your heir!” Psalm 16
“I’m not trying to get my way in the world’s way.
I’m trying to get your way, in your Word’s way.” Psalm 17
“God made my life complete when I placed all the pieces before him.
When I got my act together, he gave me a fresh start.
Now I am alert to God’s ways; I don’t take God for granted.
Every day I review the way he works; I try not to miss a trick.
I feel put back together and am watching my step.
God rewrote the text of my life when I opened the book of my heart to his eyes.” Psalm 18
“The morning’s sun’s a new husband leaping from his honeymoon bed, the day breaking sun an athlete racing to the tape.” Psalm 19
“God’s reputation is twenty-four carat gold, with a lifetime guarantee. The decisions of God are accurate down to the nth degree. God’s Word is better than a diamond, better than a diamond set between emeralds. You’ll like it better than strawberries in spring, better than red, ripe strawberries.” Psalm 19
“He has never let you down,
never looked away when you were being kicked around.
He has never wandered off to do his own thing;
he has been right there, listening.” Psalm 22
“If I keep my eyes on God, I won’t trip over my own feet.” Psalm 25
