St. John’s College is the school my oldest daughter is interested in attending, that I mentioned in a previous post (see here). It is a small liberal arts college that has an intense non-elective program of reading and discussing 100 of the Great Books in their four year program, some in their original languages.It is the third oldest school in the country, established in the 1600‘s.
Visiting this school was the reason I was in Annapolis, and the photos below show the college’s setting. The big discussion tables are for their seminar style classes. The library was a complete surprise with old brick on the outside and a completely new modern style interior.
The weather was lovely when we were there; the crew team was on the river, and the flowering trees were blooming. The second to last picture is the Maryland Capital building, one block away. And the last photo says a lot… these students are kids who love to read!
