I’ve recently taken a deep dive into looking at David Tress’ abstract landscapes, and have ordered his book from England.
I love the visceral vigor of his mark making, especially from such a meek man, love the layered collage paper technique (which I plan on trying), love that he goes beyond the rectangular picture plane, and love the highly textured impasto quality of his work. I love how he cherishes, walks, studies, listens to, and sketches the land, but then translates all that into painting through his repeated memories, instead of literal interpretations.
You can check out his work in this post, and these Youtube videos of him and his work are wonderful:

Don’t you love it too?
