John and Lynn Holbrook have farmed these four acres locally for 40 years, and we have been loyal customers over the past two decades. At the start of this year, the Holbrooks handed over the reins of the farm to Jess Wong (above), who has a lease agreement for the land that allows the Holbrooks to remain living there in retirement. She has learned a lot from them in the past few years working there, and they are truly blessed to have such an enthusiastic entrepreneur take over their beloved place. It is a joy to witness the miracle of this symbiotic relationship, where both are so mutually benefitted.
Jess worked very hard over the holidays, scrubbing, whitewashing, and updating the barn market. I was stunned at the transformation when I first walked in. First of all there is an actual door now, which will take some getting used to, but because of that, the place is infused with much more light, and is warmer in the winter. Check out the photos below, and see how much more upscale she was able to make it with just what was there already, repurposing things creatively.
I believe in supporting local agriculture. If you are local, swing by Holbrook Farm sometime soon for something yummy. But wherever you are, I recommend having a relationship with those that grow your food. It is enriching all around.
So here’s to you Jess, I’m proud of what you are doing and thank you for it! We believe in you and are rooting for you.

I’m in Texas and cannot come to Holbrook Farms, but I’m rooting for Jess and all the independent farmers! I want to get to know the local farmers in my area. I hope I find some like Jess–so enthusiastic and committed to giving us veggies and fruits that are grown with care–hopefully organically.
