I was at an event that was graced by the amazing Bagpipe player Iain Massie who even played for Prince Charles and Princess Diana the day after they were married. Today he played an inspired version of Amazing Grace that brought everyone to their feet. It was very moving to say the least, and there was not a dry eye in the place.
It made me think about a few quotes by Mary Baker Eddy and the Bible about grace:
“What we most need is the prayer of fervent desire for growth in grace, expressed in patience, meekness, love, and good deeds.” Mary Baker Eddy
“Grace and Truth are potent beyond all other means and methods.” Mary Baker Eddy
“For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.” John 1:7
The hymn I heard today made me grateful for how far I’ve come. Here are the words of that hymn as it is adapted in the Christian Science Hymnal:
Hymn 431
Amazing grace! how sweet the sound,
That saved a soul like me.
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!
Through many dangers, toils, and snares,
I have already come;
’Tis grace has brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promised good to me,
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures.
I’d like to cultivate more grace, and experience more of its transforming power! Who wants to join me?
