Monhegan (Last Day and Leaving Photos)

Leaving Monhegan photos

Our last day on the island, we packed up, and then headed through the Cathedral Woods to paint at Squeaker Cove, which we’ve done each year. It has become a pilgrimage of sorts. Then we gathered for yummy food at the Monhegan Brewery (I had wonderful fried oysters). Before heading to the ferry, we checked out the Monhegan Library, which was the most adorable place.

The sea was calm, and for the first time, the ferry took us around the island to see the other side, which was especially interesting since we’ve hiked in all those places, but have never seen it from the water. We also saw seals, and were surprised to spot porpoises too! Maybe they are usually there, but the water is too rough to see them.

We had an amazing dinner at Alsace in Union, Maine– that pretzel and salad were both fabulous!– to cap off a wonderful time. Now I am headed home, to be in Connecticut until June.

Thank you Polly! Monhegan Island is on my list of special places to be. We’ve been going there for the past 7 years and stay at the Monhegan House too. I always take many … photos and enjoy them as a slideshow during the year. I have really enjoyed all of your photos that you shared this week. So many familiar images that put a smile on my face and warmth in my heart.
And it’s time that I also want to let you know how much I enjoy your blog and podcast too. Wonderful ideas to mull over and beautiful pictures to view. I love how you capture colors, textures and patterns everywhere. Peace, love and harmony are expressed throughout all of your work.
    Thank you, thank you!
