Daily Routine
I’m a rebel,
so if you tell me
to do something,
I’ll likely resist it.
However, it can be stressful
never knowing what
you are going to do.
So I start by examining
what is genuinely
authentic for me
and work that into
lenient systems
with oodles of margin,
which provide
habitual structure,
and reduce tension.
One of my best tricks
is mastering my standard
morning routine.
It is like settling into a hug
at the start of each day
cozy with love,
mindfulness, and clarity.
I commune with my Source
dedicating focus to
prayer, study,
meditation, journaling,
and putting out a blog.
This sets a calm, stable
tone for my day,
helping me approach
anything that happens
with a positive mindset.
Then I prioritize and plan
only the top three things
on my to-do list;
I keep it as simple
and as uncomplicated
as holding hands.
Then I sketchily
map out the day,
allowing for
inevitable detours,
and incorporating
regular breaks
to cavort, cook,
dabble, putter,
stretch, or go for a walk.
This renews my energy,
increases creativity,
and facilitates discernment.
I move through my plan
as loosely as wading
in the warm surf
with my friends,
giving myself plenty
of opportunity for
splashing release,
for the acknowledgement
of beauty, and for
quality time
listening to others.
After dinner,
I hopefully get to
play a game with my family.
As the day winds down
I review my accomplishments
and identify areas
for improvement,
supplying myself with ample
forgiveness and latitude.
I end each day with reading,
reflection, and gratitude,
propped up in bed,
with my dear one,
either in person
or on the phone.
Then I repeat this
blessed procedure
all over again
tomorrow!
