When I read recently The Women of Abstract Expressionism (photos posted last week), I liked what I saw of Amaranth Ehranhalt (first painting below was in the book), so I took a deep dive into her life and work.

She was friends with Giacometti, Sonia Delauney, and Hundertwasser (blog about him here). You can read a conversation with her here. She died of Covid-19 at 93 in NYC and you can read her obituary in the New York Times here.

I love her colors, her brave spirit, her experimental approach expressing radiant energy in constant motion, and the fact that she wasn’t waiting for anyone’s validation. And I totally relate to her in that scarf above!

I’d love to see a retrospective of her work.
