When I read and reviewed The Magnificent Lives of Marjorie Post, I said after reading the book I’d like to visit her last home, Hillwood, which is in DC, open to the public, and filled with her treasures. This comment precipitated an invitation by my sister-in-law to do just that, and we planned our visit to my husband’s sister to coordinate with the gala at the National Museum of Women in the Arts as well.
You can see a photo of Marjorie Merriweather Post above, and the photos below show our visit to her home and gardens. We visited at just the right time of year and the gardens were absolutely stunning. It was fun that the Hillwood kitchen is the exact vintage as our own, with many similar features. It was a delight to walk around and look at everything, but the glorious flowers were my favorite. I took many more photos than these, some of which I hope to paint.
Enjoy our ramble through this remarkable heiress’s estate.

A friend and I visited Hillwood last October in all it’s fall glory. I remember looking at all the azaleas on the property, trying to envision what spring would look like. Wow! Never could have imagined the brilliance of color and voluminous bloom that is captured in your photos! It’s a beautiful museum altogether.

Fabulous!! Those double tulips are incredible! I recently subscribed with a local flower grower for weekly bouquets. Last week had these same tulips! I’d never seen such tulips, and here the landscape is full of them. What a perfect time to visit. ❤️🌷❤️
