Laurinda O’Conner Pastel Workshop in Maine (with Photos of Student Work)

Because I love Maine, and love pastel, and love the people in the Pastel Society of Maine (PSME), I have volunteered as their workshop co-chair. My friend (and fellow blog reader of yours) does the on the ground aspects of this project, like procuring venues, and I try to do everything else. This past week we hosted a three day workshop with Laurinda O’Conner at the Kennebunk Inn in Maine.

Laurinda did a great job teaching with good exercises and supportive critiques. Everyone had a great time and tried some new things. We all really enjoyed each other as well, and these occasions are phenomenal for community bonding.

Yesterday I posted what I painted during this time, and below you can see the photos of our days together, as well as some of the student’s work. My apologies for not getting all of it!

We are so grateful for all Laurinda gave us in her bubbly way, with notans, underpainting techniques, and challenging us with incorporating neutrals with our brights. Not only did we like and appreciate her art and her teaching, we were delighted to like her as a person as well.

Our next workshop is scheduled for September 10-14 2023, at Ferry Beach Conference center right on the ocean in Saco Maine. It will be taught by Tara Will. If you’d like to join us for that– which also promises to be wonderful– see the info here. We’d be happy to enfold you in this exceptional community of mutually supportive artists. I know I’m so glad I got involved with them!  I look forward to seeing these people again and often.

I work to amplify good wherever I find it. I love color, texture, beauty, great ideas, nature, metaphor, deliciousness, genuine spirituality, and exploring new territory. I encourage authenticity, nurture creativity, champion sustainability, promote peace, and hope to foster a new renaissance where we all are free to be our most fulfilled, multifaceted, and terrific selves. Polly, such a lovely snapshot of the PSME workshop. Thank you for being mindful of this task! We had fun, worked hard, and enjoyed so much good instructor input. Couldn’t ask for a better one.

I’m learning just by looking at the photos. I was where I needed to be, but it would have been great to be with all of you.
