Lengthening Our Days (New Abstract Conceptualist Painting in Pastel)

Lengthening Our Days (New Abstract Conceptualist Painting in Pastel)
Lengthening Our Days (pastel) by Polly Castor

This conceptual piece is about our days lengthening. At first, I thought it was literally about the days getting longer as spring approaches, but while I was painting, I came to see that it is also about “lengthening our days” in the longevity sense.

There is this bit in the Bible,  “If thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days. (I Kings 3:14) And this bit from a favorite hymn, “Thy days shall mercy lengthen.”

It felt good in winter to paint in a higher “key,” with the balance of the values tipping decidedly toward the light rather than the dark. This painting is done in pastel, and measures 20″ x 28.”  See the entire work above, and close-up details of it below.

I work to amplify good wherever I find it. I love color, texture, beauty, great ideas, nature, metaphor, deliciousness, genuine spirituality, and exploring new territory. I encourage authenticity, nurture creativity, champion sustainability, promote peace, and hope to foster a new renaissance where we all are free to be our most fulfilled, multifaceted, and terrific selves. Polly this is lovely! The colours are beautiful and what came to thought immediately was a phrase from Science & Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy page 545:
    …thought tending spiritually upward ….
    Thank you xx

I see the strength of a swan’s neck gently merging with a delicate hummingbird in a beautiful marsh of creation. Love it!
