Commandment: “Have no Gods before me.”
Am I worshiping any of these more than God:
family
friends
spouse
parents
boss
food
diet
nutrition
body image
money
cell phones
computers
exercise
self talk
shopping
sports
TV
Netflix
entertainment
paint
travel
weather
work
sex
medicine
politics
self interest
aging
pain
pleasure
material senses
tribalism
nationalism
influence
talent
sloth
apathy
sleep
nature
flavor
variety
the future
the past
contribution
opinions
problems
fears
I need to keep all this in proportion, i.e. second to God.
Resist these things getting over inflated and creeping larger than God in your human consciousness.
This is just a start of what to watch out for.

First Commandment: “Have no other gods before Me.”
Am I worshiping anything more than, and before, the One INFINITE divine Mind, Soul, Spirit?
And what, exactly, does it mean to “worship?”
Webster: “worship: to show reverence adoration, honor, devotion for, idolize…”Am I honoring…giving more importance/attention to…any of these before Life, Truth, Love, God?
Family ~ friends ~ spouse ~ parents ~ self, self, self ~ food ~ diet ~ nutrition~ body-image ~ money ~ cell phones ~ computers ~ exercise ~ self-pity ~ self-talk~ shopping ~ sports ~TV ~ Netflix ~ entertainment ~ paint ~ travel weather work sex medicine politics self-interest aging pain pleasure material senses tribalism nationalism influence talent sloth apathy sleep nature flavor variety the future the pas t contribution opinions problems etc??My…answer…and expanded-list…could be very discouraging! But I so do want to honor what is clearly more important than any of these! Best get goin’ on learning more about God! Her all-power, loving-presence, tender-care for me, mine, all! Then all the added “human” ways that Love is meeting my present needs/concepts will take their proper place.
Thank you for this exercise in… balance, Polly. Helps a lot!
Sending Thanks-Giving love and gratitude to you and yours this season!

I thought of this Post while at church yesterday (and shared it with my Sunday School student). We sang a hymn that I thought perfectly complemented it (grey hymnal pg. 435): “All is done for the glory of God. Amen! Amen!… Life is lived for the glory of God. Amen! Amen! Everything we do is loving our God… Everything we do is thanking our God. Amen!”
