Rhinebeck Sheep and Wool Festival Photos

We thoroughly enjoyed our jaunt to the Rhinebeck Sheep and Wool Festival. I’d heard of it for the last three decades but had never been as there were always competing events on this prime October Weekend. We weren’t able to go this year again on Saturday, but maybe it was a good thing, since they clocked over 50,000 visitors that day. Instead, we decided to squeeze it in on Sunday, heading over directly after church, through the gorgeous autumnal countryside in perfect weather. We loved it and we’ll be back again!

Julia Cameron, in her terrific book The Artist’s Way, talks about taking yourself on “artist’s dates,” for inspiration, for refreshing your spirit, for giving yourself a pattern interrupt and getting outside of your routine, and for collecting new impressions. That’s what we went to this festival for, and it gave back in spades, as you can see in the photos in this post. For someone loving both color and texture, this place was heavenly!

I do knit some, but already have a stash that will outlive me, so I bought no more yarn, preferring to photograph it. I’d love to take up wet felting, but with a pottery studio so slowly in the works, I need a whole new outlet like a hole in the head. Fortunately, our youngest is interested in that too, so maybe I’ll get to collaborate with her and play with it some in the future?

We did end up getting a few Christmas presents, and I am thrilled with my new Scarf Magnets (see first vendor listed below)! Here are the vendors I thought that you might need to know about:

  • Click here to get great scarf magnets by Jan. What a wonderful solution to a problem I’ve long had! Her Instagram is here and her photo is below.
  • Rod Stevens at Woodchuck Products: evenstevens067@gmail.com (beautiful wood weaving and spinning tools)
  • Various and Sundry Shop: they buy and sell antique sewing notions (see button vendor in photos below): contact variousandsundryshop@gmail.com
  • And I absolutely loved Bonny’s Beasts; such whimsy, craftsmanship, and creativity! See some photos below and go to her website here.

In the photos below, enjoy all the color and wonder, composition and texture, from this fun outing with my sweetheart.

And I have to say, the natural fiber-loving people that were at this thing were marvelous! It was great just to be among them. One visitor we talked to had come all the way from Georgia, not just this once, but six times! Also, the cider donuts were amazing; they were inhaled before their photo could be taken…

So much to love at this festival! I wish I could have been there. I love color and texture as much as you do. Just seeing all that colorful wool boosted my mood!! I loved Bonnie’s Beasts flower birds. And that beet-shaped felted cat bed? Hilarious! I must have one when I get our next kitten, which is going to be soon, I can feel the need building. Do you have any contact info for the felted cat bed vendor that you could pass to me?-❤️ Dawn

Unfortunately I don’t. A google search may yield some similar results. Or asking around in the knitting community with my photo.
