Home is Heaven

As we hunker into 4ºF weather here in Connecticut, with snow on the ground, and with more and more plans cancelled because of the new Covid variant, my thought turns toward home.

We’ve been here a lot over the last couple years, obviously. Recently, having a houseful for the holidays felt very different, but we are now back to a more usual quietude around here. Anyway, I’m grateful staying home doesn’t sound bad to me. I have much to happily occupy me here.

I’m thinking today of Mary Baker Eddy equating home with heaven. “Pilgrim on earth, thy home is heaven; stranger, thou art the guest of God.” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, page 254). In that same book she defines heaven as, “Harmony; the reign of Spirit; government by divine Principle; spirituality; bliss; the atmosphere of Soul” (ibid page 587). No wonder I don’t mind being holed up here!

Let’s take that definition of heaven and equate it with our homes here and now, instead of thinking of heaven as some far off event. Spirit, Principle, and Soul are all referred to in that definition as synonyms for God.

Do you feel the atmosphere, the reign, the government of God in your home? Do you claim that heaven is actually going on in all the homes of those you know and don’t know, especially where  there is a suggestion otherwise? Maybe this is a blessed time to feel that more intimately, more wholly, more convincingly, more universally?

I’m cherishing each of you today very snug and content– yes, blissed out– in your present day heaven, called home, wherever you are, even if you are not in your house. Heaven is not a place after all, it is a state of consciousness that can be with you all the time.

Let the safety of this ever-possible harmony see us all through. And meanwhile, from our home to yours, let this amaryllis, blooming right now over here, smile its radiance upon each of you.

    Thank you, Polly!
My husband and I are happily hunkered down too. It isn’t quite as cold here in the UK, but we are both enjoying some peace and quiet during this season of renewal and thoughtfulness.
Love to you and James x

    Yessssssssss!

Good Good Good and More Good!!

Heaven is a State of Mind… Our True Mind … the One Mind/Consciousness of all the infinite (non-finite) creation, as Mary Baked Eddy writes. This Mind is PRESENT with us ALL, all the time. We CAN become conscious of this fact wherever we are…. cozy in a warm and beautiful house, or camped on the riverbank with hundreds of other “house-less” folks.
Truth is impersonal, but oh-so loving and near.

Happy Day in your sunny Art Studio, dear Polly!
