Photos from January Walks 2021

Photos of Huntington State Park January 2021

I’m still walking the same ground at Huntington State Park, and there is not much new to see but the cold. Everyday it has been freezing but you can notice it effects on the land differently from day to day. Getting out regardless of the temperature has been an exercise in fortitude, but once I’m out there, it is one of buoyant mindfulness. Not only is the ice varied and fascinating, but it makes curious sounds, mooing, keening, pinging, crackling, moaning, crunching, echoing, and muffled lapping.

In these photos, you can see what I noticed this month. Some of these are reference photos, others are abstract photographs in their own right. What are you noticing outside where you are? Even in the bleakest months, there is always something good to find.

And to those of you in warmer climes (I know you are out there), so sorry you are missing all this frigid air in the lungs. It feels so good!

I work to amplify good wherever I find it. I love color, texture, beauty, great ideas, nature, metaphor, deliciousness, genuine spirituality, and exploring new territory. I encourage authenticity, nurture creativity, champion sustainability, promote peace, and hope to foster a new renaissance where we all are free to be our most fulfilled, multifaceted, and terrific selves. Oh!! These are SO beautiful! I do a similar thing on my walks too and try to stay mindful of details I may have missed on a familiar path the day before. There is always something new! The light at this time of year always delights me, casting shadows long and beautiful. Thank you for the post!

Beautiful! Do you walk with James or on your own? I just wondered. My husband and I have shared some lovely walks during this time of sheltering. In the U.K. the days are lengthening and we now have 9 hours of daylight each day – it’s wonderful. Our snowdrops will soon be in bloom! X

He walks with me only about once a week. The rest of the time my walk is spent either in quiet contemplation, on practice calls, or talking with my out of state sisters or kids, or listening to audio books. I’m grateful to have a job where I can be out walking and still be available for work calls if needed. Cell phones and ear buds are a boon! And we are nowhere near anything blooming, although our afternoon light lasts longer…

Yes, we are so blessed with technology to enable us to keep in touch, it’s especially valuable at this time! And thinking time is valuable too. X

I am loving your pictures, and enjoying the memories of breathing the cold air while living for many years in Michigan. And now from the warmth of my little condo in Florida! Ha!
