When I teach classes about abstraction, I like to show some photos to clarify that abstraction is all around us. I encourage you to see them everywhere you go too. This recent visit to a friend’s large, and historically rich basement, was full of such abstract compositional opportunities.
Look at each of these photos as if it was a stand alone abstract art composition, instead of just a snap shot in a basement. See how the shapes and colors and textures move your eye around the picture plane? See the classic design motifs? A couple of these I’ll probably paint someday. After looking at these, go on your own treasure hunt, and see what abstract compositions you can find where ever you are.

What if we had never seen A Whole Elephant….only heard the descriptions that five blind men touching different parts of same?
Wow, what a picture we’d get, huh!So many…. viewpoints, out there…. So many slants, angles, opinions.
