My Octopus Teacher (Movie Review)

My Octopus Teacher (Movie Review)

This new Netflix documentary was recommended to me by three completely separate sources last week.  Now I see why! It is beautiful, educational, heart-warming, and awe-inspiring. It is about a man who makes friends with an octopus in the kelp forest off the shore of South Africa, and how it transforms his perspective. Also, the photography at times is mind-blowing. I give it five stars.

I especially liked what he said about the rewards of returning to the same place in nature everyday, and how that makes you part of it. As much as I love discovering new vistas, this year I too have been learning the rewards of returning over and over again to the same location, and intimately really knowing a patch of earth.

If you loved this film as much as I did, you might also like a book reviewed in 2016 called the Soul of an Octopus. You can read my review of that book here.

I work to amplify good wherever I find it. I love color, texture, beauty, great ideas, nature, metaphor, deliciousness, genuine spirituality, and exploring new territory. I encourage authenticity, nurture creativity, champion sustainability, promote peace, and hope to foster a new renaissance where we all are free to be our most fulfilled, multifaceted, and terrific selves. We watched this last night and absolutely loved it! What a wonderful thing to gain the trust of a wild creature and what beautiful photography!

I also read Soul of an Octopus and have a greater respect for these wonderful creatures. Thanks for the book review and the film recommendation.
