Almond Crescent Cookies (Recipe)

Almond Crescent Cookie Recipe, Austrian National Cookie

We got this recipe from our friend Libby when she brought some of these delicious morsels to dinner at our house last August. It turns out it is an old family recipe, from Miss Anne, her father’s nanny, who was famous throughout the neighborhood for making these. Apparently they are the Austrian national cookie, also known as Vanillekipferl (Vanilla Crescent Cookie). The recipe has since been adjusted for the food processor by Libby’s cousin Grace, which is the version she sent me below.

We have made these for art openings this fall to the appreciation of many. I think about eight people have asked me for the recipe before I am getting it up here. We would make only one adjustment to this recipe, so try it either our way, or Libby and Grace’s way. Both are good; I just prefer a stronger flavor.

So to the recipe below, I recommend adding as well:

1 teaspoon of almond extract

Enjoy these old world delicacies.
