Church in the Garden

Butterfly wings arch
like cathedral windows
basking in the sun,
their yellow stained glass
set in contrasting black
delicately wrought iron frames
lazily waxing open and shut,
demurely fluttering,
almost shimmying as they
contemplatively slurp
concentrating on the nectar
of pure joy while they
usher and filter
the light of the world
as through a clearstory,
focusing attention and thought.

The succulent,
burnt sienna centers
of the strident cone flowers
are bristling floral pulpits
for proboscis probings
on hot pink petaled
doctrinal platforms
preaching clearly of God’s
magnificence, beauty
and tender, detailed care–
definitely governing
the mutually serviced
intimate and satisfied
combination of ideas
for each of us
as well as these.

I love these photos. I have cone flowers in my garden…covered with bees.
