More than any other reason, we came to Amarillo to see my husband’s Aunt Clara and Uncle Harvey. Uncle Harvey is my husband’s mother’s brother, and he scored big time over 50 years ago marrying Aunt Clara, a wonderful German girl he met in D.C. when he was there working in the Patent Office. (Uncle Harvey has 19 patents on optics, and is exceptionally sweet himself.)
Both in their eighties, they are an inspiration, not only intrinsically, but also for how free and able they are for their age. They had five children of their own, and are now kept busy with 12 of their 15 grandchildren living in town. Also, Harvey still goes into the office each morning, glad he works for himself. They not only hosted us in their home but will host 19 for Thanksgiving dinner with an easy attitude of unruffled nonchalance.
Clara makes terrific fresh squeezed juice every morning–shown here is apple/orange/pineapple– and she never seems to over-react at anything… Such an even keel attitude seems a great recipe for vitality!
