I’ve Got a Lot Going On (pastel) by Polly Castor

I’m in this Pastel Society of Maine National “Pastels Only” show. You can see the show here until May 31, 2026.

These shows tend to be highly representational, but I doggedly keep submitting abstraction. My work sticks out as a bit alien, painting ideas instead of things, but I hope to make room for others to be more adventurous and creative.

That said, there are some good paintings here, and in this post, you can see the ones I liked best. The painting awarded “best in show” is shown last below.

I love this group of pastellists in particular, and paint with them often in Maine, at our yearly retreat in June and on Monhegan Island in the fall.

I work to amplify good wherever I find it. I love color, texture, beauty, great ideas, nature, metaphor, deliciousness, genuine spirituality, and exploring new territory. I encourage authenticity, nurture creativity, champion sustainability, promote peace, and hope to foster a new renaissance where we all are free to be our most fulfilled, multifaceted, and terrific selves.
