No Kings rallies are being held in America today, to come together in unified opposition against immorality and unconstitutionality in our government. This is important to help stop or democracy from being turned into a dictatorship by corrupt oligarchs.
As the the president of our local clergy association, I was asked to give the keynote speech at our No Kings rally here, but then as the expected numbers of attemdees swelled to 30,000, so the town insurance people started freaking out and cancelled the planned event. Now people will be demonstrating here ad hoc, and I will not be giving my speech. I already wrote half of that speech, and feel compelled to stress that people need to do what they can to turn this moral, tragic, corrupt, and illegal situation around.
You can see some of the issues highlighted in the links and memes in this post. It looks like a lot but this is only the slightest tip of the iceberg. The problem is so much bigger that what shows here. I place them here to educate people that may not be getting all the same news, as well as galvanize those that are all too aware what is going on. I also put these here because I feel it is important to stand up to bullies, but additionally because I don’t want to sour my monthly bits and clips post (where I try to “amplify good”) with this heap of concerns.
I hope whoever can we go out and demonstrate at a no kings rally today. I will participate from my prayer chair and feel that is a very valid way to protest too. Please don’t do nothing.
May our love of each other and our earth bring peace to our country and our planet, health to our systems, guardrails to our public officials, and liberty and justice to all.
