I have loved seeing Michael Vermette’s oil paintings at the Lupine Gallery on Monhegan every year I’ve been there, photographing the above piece many times. So I was delighted that he had a show this year at the Island Inn, so I could see more of his work.

I particularly love the forest painting below, which I felt was even better in person. I admire how he handles the paint, the vigor of his colors, and the energy in his brushstrokes.
