Hike to the Cave in the Palo Duro Canyon

A highlight of my time in Texas last weekend was this hike I went on with our niece and her 15 month old, who was carried for a short bit, but did most of the hike on her own two feet, especially the difficult vertical bits, which was very impressive to me. Our kids were not even walking at that age, and it was fun to be with her on her first hike.

Her sense of wonder and fascination were great to be with. We had a fun chat with an international bunch of college students in the cave, but also had it to ourselves for a while.

The vistas, the rock formations, the very different color palette, and the company made for a special time.

Great pics. I especially love the roadrunner.

I was last there in 1978. I had no idea there is a cave in the canyon.
