Luc André Marc Pierre is an abstract collagist that lives in southern France and Italy.
To quote his website, “We enjoy exploring his rhythmic musical compositions, being carried away by the song of colors and being surprised by the imbalances.”
Mostly what I like about this is both the scale of his large elements and his finished work, as well as his use of breathing space. I love the boldness of it. He embraces childlike mark making, and his general approach is refreshingly unabashed and unapologetic. Although his art is not complex, technical, nor representational, it sells well.
My students would do well to adopt more of all of this, especially the confidence that they can make whatever they like and it will still be legitimate and valuable. My female students find this particularly challenging, so I’m posting these photos of respected, simple, collages as examples of how doing what you want is not hubris, but essential. Make your own authentic artistic exploration without hesitation as well! If you love your work that is sufficient to validate it.
