Braided Branches on Long Lake (Pastel) by Polly Castor

This is the last of the four paintings I painted during my artist-in-residency at Creative Arts Camp in Maine. The other three were abstractions done in acrylic, but I also wanted to capture the beautiful place I was. I painted all week near this incredible tree, and I was particularly attracted to the redness and the textural roughness of its bark, as well as its one-sided, woven branches.

Braided Branches on Long Lake was painted in plein air in pastel. It is 15″x22.”

I work to amplify good wherever I find it. I love color, texture, beauty, great ideas, nature, metaphor, deliciousness, genuine spirituality, and exploring new territory. I encourage authenticity, nurture creativity, champion sustainability, promote peace, and hope to foster a new renaissance where we all are free to be our most fulfilled, multifaceted, and terrific selves.
