I love the farmer’s market for all it’s color, fresh air, community, flowers and produce. But more than that I believe in buying local, and knowing who grows your food. This is zero waste, sustainable eating at its lowest carbon foot print.
We bought that box of heirloom tomato “seconds” above for $25; we cut them up and froze them for the winter. We also bought 48 ears of corn to make Sweet Corn Chowder to freeze. We also made the Ultra Ratatouille I posted the other day, and froze a lot of that.
The still life arrangements on our picnic table, together with the back seat of the our car on a rainy Saturday morning, show what we bought from the farmer’s market. There is love and beauty in every bite.

Having been born “on a lettuce leaf” (I tell folks)
in Watsonville, CA, where so much of our local veggies are grown, I
can surrre relate to these wonderful photos of your local produce.
Nearby to our home is Gizdich Berry Farm where we often go to Pik-Ur-Sef
…to pick berries off the vines. Their Olallieberries are divine, and are only sold frozen,
by one store in town, when the fresh ones are gone. We go gettum!! ($19. a bag, but so worth it!)
Our local Farmers’ Markets are great!
